Hi everyone. It’s my birthday today. However, it’s one of the saddest birthdays I have had…ever. Courtsey of Wayne Rooney’s dramatic shenanigans.
If there ever has been a United player I have come to be personally attached to - it is Rooney. Not Giggs, not Scholes, not Ronaldo, and dare I say not even Beckham or Cantona. The reason is simple - he is down to earth and talk, walks and acts like a regular guy from the neighborhood rather than a superstar who gets paid in millions of pounds.
It is sad to see him throw a hissy-fit in his attempt to leave United. I don’t have any issues with him leaving. The club comes before each and every player, coach, and even the manager. But to see Rooney talk rubbish about the club and manager to all media, is simply astounding. United players are above such behavior. There is a reason the club has been successful - it’s a family with a unified goal. Not a business of collecting trophies or money for that matter.
Usually I highlight the failure of clubs in this blog and talk about the much ignored “Race to Relegation”. Rooney’s actions this past week has been the biggest loser move of the century. He has dropped from being a role model to another wining football star following greed and disillusionment.
Manchester United will survive without him. Nani has stepped up to the task. So will Macheda, Hernandez and Anderson. The future is bright. United have survived the loss of Beckham, RVD, Keane, Stam and Ronaldo. The club will survive this too. But it is sad to see one of its favorite sons fall from grace in such humiliating way. I hope this is the first and last time such an event will occur.
